Faith

Romans 3

Romans 3:3,4- Does their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God? By no means!

  • God is good to us even when we are not good to him. This is truly amazing grace!

Romans 3:10- None is righteous.

  • Psalm 14:3- All have turned away, all have become corrupt, there is no one who does good, not even one.

  • Psalm 53:3- Everyone has turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

  • Ecclesiastes 7:20- Indeed, there is no one on earth who is righteous, no one who does what is right and never sins.

Romans 3:11- no one understands; no one seeks for God.

  • Psalm 14:2- The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.

  • Psalm 53:2- God looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there is any who understand, any who seek God.

Romans 3:12- All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.

  • Psalm 14:3, 52:3

Romans 3:13- Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive. The venom of asps is under their lips.

  • Psalm 5:10- Declare them guilty O God! Let their intrigues be their downfall. Banish them for their many sins. for they have rebelled against you.

  • Psalm 140:3 - They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s, the poison of vipers is on their lips.

Romans 3:14- Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.

  • Psalm 10:7- His mouth is full of lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue.

Romans 3:15- Their feet are swift to shed blood;

  • Proverbs 1:16- For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

Romans 3:16- Their paths are ruin and misery,

  • Isiah 59:7- Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths

Romans 3:17- and the way of peace they have not known.

  • The way of peace they do not know; there is no justice in their paths. They have turned them into crooked roads; no one who walks along them will know peace.

Romans 3:18- There is no fear of God before their eyes.

  • Psalm 36:1- Sin whispers to the wicked, deep within their hearts. They have no fear of God at all.

Romans 3:20- For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

  • All people sin and fall short of perfect obedience to God’s will. The law brings awareness that we cannot be saved by ourselves; we are in need of a savior.

  • Romans 3:24- and are justified by is grace as a gift.

Romans 3:27- Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded.

  • Salvation comes through the grace of Jesus. If righteousness came through works, we humans have every right to boast. But, because we are saved through grace, no one can boast before God.

Romans 3:31- Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.

  • This used to confuse me a lot. I remember studying Romans in high school with my church small group and the whole book seemed like a contradiction. It took a lot of brain power to understand what the heck grace really is. And still, I don’t fully understand what God’s grace is for me. Justification by faith does not nullify the law, but establishes it.
